WHAT WE DO

Fort Washington Estates Civic Association (FWECA)

FWECA members are neighbors who care about maintaining and improving our quality of life public safety and neighborhood attractiveness.  Every adult (age 18 or over) in Fort Washington Estate (or Captain’s Cove) is eligible for membership, with the membership extending to the entire household. The geographic boundaries of our community are on lots in the Fort Washington Road to the north, Fort Washington National Park to the west, the properties of the Fort Washington Marina and the Fort Washington Pool Association to the south,  Old Fort Road South, Washington Drive, and King Charles Terrace to the east.

Everyone is welcome at our General Meetings.  However, active participation with voting rights at membership meetings is restricted to members of the Association. Membership is denoted by payment of household dues for the fiscal year in which the meeting is held.

The FWECA Board consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and up to five other members. The Board establishes committees to help carry out FWECA’s work. Please join the committee you are interested in! Your involvement will help to make Fort Washington Estates/Captain’s Cove a great place to live. The committees and their leadership are:

Block Captains

Block Captains are the primary liaison between residents and FWECA. Maintaining our system of Block Captains keeps us eligible for the Neighborhood Watch program, administered by Prince George’s County Police. Besides being representatives of FWECA and advocates of the Neighborhood Watch Program, Block Captains assist in the collection contact information of Cove residents in order to keep residents informed of important information, deliver “The Cove” newsletters, flyers and notices of meetings and sponsored activities, and provide other assistance to the Board and the community as may be appropriate. Please get to know your Block Captain and also consider volunteering as a Block Captain.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a Block Captain, please contact the Block Captain chairperson, Carolyn Harwood, by email at cmharwood@verizon.net, or by phone at 301-292-4988.

Communications Committee

The communications committee develops the Membership Directory, “The Cove” newsletters, and flyers to keep residents informed. This committee also promotes the use of NextDoor as a means of sharing information and posting community issues.

If you would like to serve on the communications committee, please contact us at hello@fweca.org.

Membership Committee

The membership committee encourages all residents of Captain's Cove to join our association and get involved. Its plans and conducts an annual membership drive (with the help of the Block Captains) and community event to promote membership.

f you would like to serve on the membership committee or have any questions about joining FWECA, please contact the chairperson, James E. Hicks, Jr. by email at monsterm5@aol.com, or by phone at 301-641-9755.
