Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste Collections
Trash Container Requirements:
-
Permanent-type, standard metal with bottoms intact and no excessive rust
-
securely tied, heavy-duty plastic bags
-
Watertight, heavy-duty plastic containers with handles and tight-fitting lids
Acceptable Materials:
-
Garbage: food wastes accumulated in normal household use
-
Trash: some plastics and ashes
-
Unwanted trash containers (old rigid plastic and metal trash can/carts/containers must be placed at curbside on regularly scheduled trash and recycling collection day turned upside down).

Bamboo: the proper disposal is to be prepared like yard waste no longer than 4 feet and tied in bundles placed out to be collected with the trash.
Bulky Trash Collection
Prince George's County offers bulky trash collection by appointment only. To schedule a bulky trash pickup, call (301) 883-4748 or complete the online scheduling form using the link above.
Acceptable Materials:
-
Carpet and padding (Limit of carpet and padding is 324 sq. ft. rolled and tied on ends)
-
Doors and cabinets (limit of 3 each)
-
Furniture and refrigerators (Limit of 5 appliances per pickup; doors must be taped shut)
-
Hot water heaters and lawn mowers (Remove the gas tank and drain the oil from the lawn mowers)
-
Other large materials/furniture items generated in the household that are not picked up by refuse collection

Smaller household items:

must be placed in bags or boxes​

limit any combination of bags and boxes to 20

weight limit of 60 pounds per bag or box

Yard Waste Collection
Items Collected:

Limbs less than 4 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter, tied in bundles. (not to exceed 60 lbs.)

Dry grass and leaves (not to exceed 60 lbs.)

Wet grass and leaves (not to exceed 25 lbs.)
Acceptable Containers:

Heavy-duty paper bags

Heavy-duty trash cans with handles and lid. Cans must be clearly labeled "Yard Waste/Trim"
Trash Collection
Recycling Collection
Prince George's County Yard Waste Collection occurs on Mondays only. The County does not reschedule collection days when they fall on a holiday. Collection runs from 6am - 8pm. From the County website:
Collection for Senior Citizens and Disabled

Backdoor collection of trash is available for senior citizens over 65 and disabled citizens (there must not be a resident of the home under 65 or physically able to transport the trash to the curb for collection). Contact County Click 3-1-1 to make arrangements for this service.

Collection is rescheduled for the following day if a holiday falls on a collection day (Tuesday - Friday).
Prince George's County transitioned to a once-a-week trash collection schedule in 2016. Collection runs from 6am - 8pm. From the County website:

Prince George's County Recycling Collection runs from 6am - 8pm. The County accepts recyclables placed on the curb in a county-issued toter or any box or trash can marked with an "X" or the word "Recycling."
